Remote Control

 "I can make my own choices and be in control of my life." You've heard it before. Me, too.  These  words spilled out of my mouth as I left home for college. I was in charge of what I'd eat, what I'd wear, what I'd do. I made important decisions, too: where to live, what course of study I would pursue, the people I would choose as friends, and later, the choice of a life mate.              

But--oops.   I found out choice and control were two different things. Making a choice was no guarantee I'd know the results of that choice. A fast-food meal at a taco shop could have unintended consequences. (Did that). And, so could choosing the wrong career.  (Did that, too).      

Growing up is tough, isn't it? We think we've invincible but find out we're not. We think the future is ours, but then realize we're not in control of it. We may try to live for tomorrow, but all we can do is live one day at a time.   

Control. Ha! However, (chuckle), if you ask my husband, he'll definitely tell you he's in control of the T.V. remote.    

Remote. Control. "Remote," per the  online dictionary, is, "having very little connection with or relation to."   Thus, the term for remote control, allowing us to control television channels from a distance.         

Choices.  They were meant to be.  The One who created us could have remotely controlled our actions or behaviors to allow us to live in a perfect world. Instead, the Author and Creator of Life loves us enough to give us  free will, the freedom to make choices. The Master of the Universe did not intend for us to be wired to a remote, with His Almighty hand directing our every move with the push of a button.      

 God gave us the choice to believe in Him, too--or not.  For those who have not yet made the decision, it's a simple  "Yes." A Bible verse that sums up God's love for us is from John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." 

Now,   that is a choice. And the results are truly out of this world.    

Remote control? Save it for the T.V. set.
