When I was young and got a cut or scrape, Mom would dry my tears, then wash and dry the offending wound.
"Hold still," she'd say, putting a Band Aid in place. Then I felt better. I was certain she could fix anything. As I grew, I learned there were times when a Band Aid just wouldn't do...when our cat, Myrtle died of kidney failure, or the Christmas Eve my grandmother died. No Band Aid could take away that pain. Years later I was the one putting the Band Aids on our little girls, and trying to find a way to comfort them when their Nana passed away at Thanksgiving. No Band Aid fixes for that. When my mother was in her 80's, she developed Alzheimer's. As the disease progressed, I tried to understand why she had to suffer. I tried to "create" a Band Aid, a way to deal with the loss of her memory. It was my attempt to mask the truth, for I wasn't going to be able to fix the effects of the Alzheimer's, or the Macular Degeneration. After much prayer, and asking God, "Why?," I came to the understanding that not all illnesses are centered solely in the physical realm. Sometimes the soul needs healing, too. Another situation where "Band Aids need not apply." Sometime a Band Aid just isn't enough. But there is One who is enough... God. No matter what we are going through, He is there for us, with His compassion, His care, and His love. When in distress, call on the Great Physician. He has the best Spiritual First Aid Kit you'll ever find. "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." - Psalm 46:1 "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:19 .
