Sometimes I wake up grumpy. Do you? For me, it's mainly because I'm a night owl. I don't go to sleep easily, so waking up is like trying to come out of hibernation. But there is one thing I have always noticed about mornings: the birds are always singing.
One day I was talking to a friend, sitting on her back patio. We were immersed in a deep, serious conversation. Sometimes life events can make us sad, or get us down, you know? As we sat there, I couldn't help but hear a variety of bird calls and songs coming from the trees in her yard. Suddenly a thought struck me. Birds are always singing. Are they just happy creatures, or at least very willing communicators? They are usually singing their little hearts out. Turning to my friend, I mentioned all the birds singing in her yard, and my habit of waking up glum. Then I said, "Have you ever heard of a depressed bird?" "No," she chuckled. "I haven't." "Me, neither," I replied. It was a mini-therapy moment. Why not take a lesson from the birds? It would be simple enough: 1).Sing every day [but if you don't sing out loud, at least sing inside your heart] Life is too short to be grumpy , sad, or glum. Besides, have you ever heard of a depressed bird? Now, each morning I anticipate the joyful sound of birds singing. May you, too, find joy for your day in these songs. Birds: designed by God, the original Orchestrator of music. And bird song: It's not just for the birds!
