Shock Absorber

"When are ya' gonna' get this thing fixed?" Gina, my Jersey friend asked as my 65' VW  lumped over uneven pavement.
"Fixed?"
"Yeah. Ya' got cement tires or somethin'? Girl, ya' need new shocks," Gina responded, smacking her bubble gum.
"New shocks?"
"Yeah, ya' know, shock absorbers," Gina replied, hands circling with palms up. (She always talked with her hands).
"Great, that's all I need." I rolled my eyes. "Another repair bill."

I wondered, what could be worse: the jarring, bumpy ride of my car--or the bumpy road my life had taken?
Bumps in the road. Yeah, as Gina would say. I know all about 'em."
Then, I thought, if only we had a shock absorber for those.
I didn't think there was an answer, but I was wrong. It was tucked away in my heart, long forgotten after I'd put aside church and wasn't thinking about God.
When I had enough money I replaced the shocks. What a difference they made! My car rode so smoothly I hardly noticed the bumps. They were much less noticeable than before.
My car was fixed--but I needed fixing, too, suffering the consequences of being jolted by the by the bumps of life for too long.
I returned to faith and prayed, "Lord, take the wheel." And He did. Once again I felt the love and comfort I'd long stepped away from. Jesus: Counselor, helpmate, friend, confidant, Savior. Truly, He was the "shock absorber" for the bumps and lumps along my path of life.
Jesus will help you over all of the rough spots on your journey, too. He'll be with you--and me--as we celebrate the good things, too.
No matter what you face, God is with you. And, rest assured, His spiritual "shock absorbers" won't cost you a dime!

"Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." - Matthew 11:28-30 NIV
